Starting anew there is always a mixture of curiosity, apprehension and exhilaration. You always want to create a good impression, learn new things, and connect to people as this are frequently viewed to be an important step in one’s career. I started my journey with the same feeling of anticipation. It was exciting and intimidating to think about having a new role, especially something that allowed me to experience working from home. This path is not just about developing my professional abilities; it’s also about personal development. Come along with me as I navigate this new chapter and get a taste of what it's like to be one of the interns here at Kwanii.
First impression on setting success
As students, we often find ourselves in comfortable routines, going to class, studying, hanging out with friends, and engaging in things that we are accustomed to. It’s perfectly okay to relish the familiarity of our daily routine, but venturing beyond it can lead to chances that can greatly influence our career and personal development. I was fascinated and had some doubts about myself when I was looking for some opportunities online as the school break clocked in.
The process begins with researching what fits in my interest. While some internships look like an excellent starting point, others don't quite fit with my professional aspirations. As the invitation for the interview presents an opportunity itself, which is one of the most exciting and nerve-racking parts of being able to experience the entire process of being hired. Thankfully, I already grabbed it to show my skills and passion for the role. But from the back of my head there are some certain thoughts. Could I establish a virtual connection with the team, can I keep up with tasks given and how do I make an impact behind this screen? How would it vary from working in an office setting? The moment I was able to receive that I had passed I was quite afraid because it was a little intimidating not knowing what’s behind, but I kept on reminding myself that it’s about embracing the journey ahead.
Settling in through onboarding at Kwanii
Unlike any previous first day I’ve had, those thoughts of rushing into a new office, saying hello to employees and taking a vibe of a new place. Instead, all I could hear was a faint hum of my laptop, anticipation, and seeing the meeting invitation link. Soon enough, my initial thoughts started to change. I experienced a warm welcome from the company's friendly and encouraging atmosphere and was amazed at how well remote work was integrated. I was able to envision my role and responsibilities because of how well they run my onboarding process and other HR interns were able to share with us their experiences during the orientation.
It was a bit overwhelming during the HR training because they were able to introduce a new set of work tools, but they were careful to let you navigate different software quickly which helped integrate my role. The frequent check in of my co-interns and supervisors really helped to close the distance as it increased my sense of belongingness and awareness of the dynamic culture.
The learning curve on first task
Anticipating what lay ahead, I was excited to receive my first task. An important obligation that set the tone for my internship was handling employee agreements. Knowing the content of agreements was the first step for me to be acquainted with the preparatory work in order for me to manage correctly and make sure I understood everything. Making sure that all documents were performed in attention to detail since errors might delay the process.
The mentorship provided from my co-interns is helpful because I was not afraid to perform the task, for they will be guiding you this procedure whereby, I would review my work twice and ask for their advice as it took their time to clarify things with me. Accomplishing the first task was a great deal of self-assurance that my capacity to make a significant contribution to the HR team increased.
More significantly, it emphasized how crucial it is for HR professionals to pay close attention to details, communicate clearly, and never stop learning. I can't wait to learn more and take on new challenges as my internship progresses. Although managing employee agreements was only the start of my adventure in the intriguing field of human resources, it set a strong basis for the rest of it.
