Kwanii Intern Blog Series: Me, Future and Kwanii

1. Where it all started

Bedroom of thoughts, 2 AM. I haven’t slept for 12 hours, but I finished my thesis, and I am now preparing my clothes for work 3 hours from now. See, being a zombie at night and a student during the day is akin to a perfect match, right? This represents a unique blend of a struggling and exhausted student. Yes, that is me.

The image above completely represents me, with my messy hair, almost broken eyeglasses, damaged notes, and my barely surviving laptop. Mind you, I am not the type of student who crams; instead, I prefer to do all my allotted duties two days before the deadline. That is why the graphic above accurately illustrates me as a "stressed student."

When I reached the age of 21, I was in my 3rd year of college. By then, all I did was pour my focus and attention into doing paperwork, essays, and thesis. I was solely focused on completing those tasks before the deadline. Well, the 3rd year is like an alarm or a morning call that makes us feel like students. I never want to leave this phase, btw.

2. Start of something new.

Hence, when I reached 4th-year college, I became unsure, conscious, and challenged. Yes, I know you have a grasp of what I meant, but what can we do? At a certain point, we all bravely navigated through this phase. The second semester came along, and finally, I got the internship I craved. Craved? Yes. Recently, my dream of studying clinical psychology has taken a turn toward uncertainty. I don't know if it's because of my age. Or is it because of the several articles I've read about how unfair treatments are for professional psychologists? Or is it just due to indecisiveness? I am not so sure.

3. The journey of student-intern

At Kwanii, I effectively carried out the duties of an employee, a practice common here, as all supervisors allow interns to perform the regular tasks of an employee. Therefore, one of my primary responsibilities was assisting with the recruitment process. I screened resumes for open positions, shortlisted qualified candidates, and helped schedule interviews. This experience exposed me to Kwanii's talent acquisition strategy and the numerous factors considered when selecting potential hires. I also took part in the onboarding process for new employees, making sure they received the necessary information and resources to seamlessly integrate into the company culture.

Through the responsibilities mentioned above, I honed various transferable skills that are critical for success in HR and beyond. These include:

  • Communication: I effectively communicated with colleagues across departments, from hiring managers to new recruits, ensuring everyone was informed and on the same page.

  • Organization: Juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines required strong organizational skills, which I believe will be valuable in any professional setting.

  • Problem-Solving: I encountered various situations that required problem-solving skills, such as troubleshooting technical issues during the onboarding process or finding creative solutions to address scheduling conflicts during interviews.

4. From Textbooks to Teamwork.

Months have passed, and today is 10:30 p.m. Five hours have passed since my internship, but it feels like it's been a lifetime. Reminiscing about the decision I made, I see that my impulsivity caused me to consider a new ambition and a new passion to look forward to after graduation, opened my eyes, and made me conscious of what to pursue after all this. This may seem exaggerated, but it opened my eyes to a new dream and summons me. I can tell you why.

My HR internship at Kwanii Inc. proved transformative, exceeding my expectations and solidifying my desire to pursue a career in HR with a specific focus on employee well-being initiatives. While my coursework offered a comprehensive understanding of HR practices, the internship exposed me to the intricate web of interactions between HR professionals, employees, and company leadership. I assisted with various tasks, including onboarding new hires and conducting employee satisfaction surveys.

Exposure can be a powerful catalyst. Before my internship at Kwanii, my professional goals were like scattered puzzle pieces—potential but lacking a clear picture. However, the experience at Kwanii was transformative, not only equipping me with valuable skills but also igniting a passion that has shaped my aspirations for the future.

This may appear to be an exaggerated piece of writing. As I mentioned above, working at Kwanii for the past few months has been an open call to me. I'm in my 20s, of course, and I'm still exploring and discovering myself. This means, that my first choice was still up for debate; it's just that working at Kwanii made me recognize what line of career goals I wanted to pursue as well as the aspirations I had for my future.

However, like many others, I initially struggled to accept these abrupt and significant changes in my career. Therefore, I made the conscious decision to embark on this new journey. Yes, there's fear, but who knows? Everyone acts fearfully, so why not join them?

The impact of Kwanii extends beyond skill development; it has honed my focus within HR and instilled a keen sense of purpose in my future career path. My goals are now laser-focused on contributing to the well-being, development, and inclusion of the workforce. Looking ahead, I imagine myself as an HR professional who champions HR Focus responsibilities that prioritize employees' well-being and continuous learning, just like Kwanii. My experience at Kwanii was not just an internship; it was a turning point that shaped my HR aspirations and set me on a path towards a fulfilling career dedicated to cultivating a thriving workforce.

As a result, I admit it wholeheartedly. I have changed the pathway I intended to walk on. Yes, it's challenging to transition from something familiar to something unfamiliar. Again, what can we do? This is life, after all. Furthermore, I am confident that I will excel in this path as well.
